TechTAC® has been in the tubing anchor business for 20 years. That’s where we specialize. Occasionally, however, we’ll get requests from our Dealer Network to produce an adjacent product or part. One such request we’ve heard frequently is to manufacture seat nipples.
The seat nipple provides a landing for the barrel of a rod pump. It can be placed in many locations along a well’s tubing. One possible placement is directly above the tubing anchor catcher (TAC). Attaching the seat nipple to the top sub of the TAC ensures that all of the tubing containing the rod pump is secured in tension. This approach minimizes tubing stretch as the rod pump plunger actuates up and down repeatedly.
An Option that Makes Sense
Regardless of where the seat nipple is located, it is typically replaced whenever the TAC is replaced, and vice-versa. With that cadence, offering this supplementary part to TechTAC’s tubing anchor customers is an option that makes sense. Not only can it simplify dealers’ supply chains, but it also provides yet another high-quality downhole tool supported by TechTAC’s service and delivery.

TechTAC now offers three sizes of seat nipples (see the table below). They can be purchased separately or as an add-on to any anchor order. Each part is:
- Made in America
- Produced with high-quality steel
- Machined with tight tolerances
- Reversible, for double the product lifespan
“Our goal in offering seat nipples alongside our TACs is simply to streamline the supply chains of our dealers,” said Luke Reary, Director of Product Management for TechTAC. “If those dealers already have an established supplier for seat nipples, great. If, on the other hand, they run into an urgent need or prefer the simplicity of purchasing the part from the same manufacturer as their tubing anchors, TechTAC is here and ready to help.”
The following table outlines the specifications of TechTAC’s seat nipples:
| Part # | Connection | Length | ID | API |

| SN2 | 2 7/8” | 12” | 2.280” | Yes |
